About the atelier

Three Generations on Lorong PJU3

One Tailor has been cutting cloth in Petaling Jaya since 1980. James Lee leads the third generation, blending Finch & Co. heritage technique with the lightweight construction that the Klang Valley climate demands.

From a Section 14 Shoplot to a PJ Institution

One Tailor opened in 1980 when James's grandfather set up a modest shop in Section 14, Petaling Jaya. He had a single conviction: that the gentlemen of Selangor deserved access to Savile Row standard tailoring without booking a flight overseas. He brought the time-honored Finch & Co. construction methods home with him and never deviated from them.

Forty-six years later, the atelier still sits in Petaling Jaya, now on Lorong PJU3. The bolts of British and Italian cloth have changed, but the founding promise has not.

A Family Atelier, Now in Its Third Generation

James grew up on the shop floor, surrounded by tailor's chalk, basted canvases, and the hum of treadle machines. He took over from his father with eighteen years of his own bench experience and a deep respect for the people who built the business before him.

Alongside James, senior cutter Ahmad bin Zainal drafts every paper pattern by hand, lead seamstress Mei Ling Chai oversees alterations, and David Raj sources fabric and walks clients through every fitting. Between the four of them, the team brings 68 years of experience to every commission.

Built for the Klang Valley

We treat the tropical climate as a design constraint, not an afterthought. That means open-weave fresco wools, half-lined and unlined jackets, breathable Irish linens, and lightweight Italian cottons. Our suits are meant to look sharp through a Damansara Uptown lunch and a humid evening reception, not just an air-conditioned boardroom.

We will tell you when a fabric is wrong for your lifestyle, when an alteration is not worth the cost, and when a stock pattern would serve you better than a full bespoke commission. That kind of honesty is the only reason a small family workshop survives in the same community for forty-six years.
