Custom Dress Shirts Made in Petaling Jaya
A well-fitted shirt is the foundation of every wardrobe One Tailor builds. We cut each shirt to your precise measurements in our PJU3 workshop, then construct it from cottons sourced directly from Thomas Mason, Albini, and our other heritage mill partners. Choose from more than 200 fabrics, design your collar and cuff exactly the way you want them, and walk away with a shirt that holds its shape through a humid Petaling Jaya afternoon.

Why a Custom Shirt Matters in Petaling Jaya
In a city where the air sits at 80% humidity for most of the year, a poorly fitted off-the-rack shirt is more than uncomfortable. It clings to your back during the walk from a parked car in Section 13, gaps at the collar by lunch, and looks tired by the time you arrive at a 5pm meeting in Bandar Utama. A shirt that actually fits you, made from cotton that breathes, changes the entire experience of working in PJ.
At One Tailor, we have been cutting shirts for Klang Valley professionals since 1980. James Lee, the third generation of the family at our PJU3 atelier, learned the rules of shirt fit from his grandfather and refined them with the same Finch & Co. heritage techniques that shape our suits.
A Library of Cotton, Curated for the Tropics
You can lose a whole afternoon in our shirting library, and many of our clients happily do. We carry more than 200 fabrics from the heritage mills:
- Thomas Mason Goldline poplins for crisp boardroom shirts that hold a sharp line under a navy jacket.
- Albini Bergamo twills and end-on-end weaves, soft enough for daily wear and durable enough for heavy laundering.
- Canclini flannels and brushed cottons for the cooler highlands trips that PJ executives often make to Genting or Cameron.
- David & John Anderson ultra-fine 200/2 yarns for clients who wear shirts mainly in air-conditioned offices.
- Linen and linen-cotton blends for outdoor receptions, garden weddings, and the unbearable mid-afternoon walk from a hotel ballroom in Mutiara Damansara to the valet stand.
Our cutters favour two-ply yarns and mercerised finishes, both of which extend the life of a shirt and resist the wrinkling that comes from a hot, humid commute on the LDP.
What We Adjust for the PJ Climate
Most off-the-rack shirts are cut for European bodies and European weather. We rework the architecture of the shirt to suit the way our clients actually live:
- Higher armholes to keep the body of the shirt in place when you raise an arm to a whiteboard or a steering wheel.
- Trim back darts for the athletic drop common among younger PJ professionals.
- Slightly longer tails for clients who spend long hours standing at events.
- Mother-of-pearl buttons that survive Malaysian humidity better than the plastic buttons used in mass production.
- Reinforced collar bands that hold their shape even after a long, sweaty day.
These details are not extras. They are simply what we believe a properly built shirt should include.
Designing Your Shirt
Every detail is yours to choose. We will walk you through:
- Collar styles, from soft button-downs for tech-casual wardrobes in Bandar Utama to crisp cutaways for the more formal floors of PJ Trade Centre.
- Cuff options, including barrel, French, mitred, and rounded cuffs, with the cuff circumference adjusted for the watch you actually wear.
- Placket details, such as concealed plackets for evening shirts or classic French plackets for daily wear.
- Monograms on the cuff, hem, or chest, in a thread colour and font that reflects your personal style.
If you are new to custom shirts, we will recommend a sensible first wardrobe and explain why each choice works.
What to Expect at Your Fitting
Your first appointment runs about 45 minutes. We sit, talk through how you wear shirts today, and ask the questions that no off-the-rack salesperson asks. Then we measure carefully, paying attention to neck, yoke, shoulder slope, and the way you carry your arms. From there, we draft your unique block.
Three to four weeks later, you return for a try-on. We pin any final adjustments and finish the shirt by hand. Once your pattern is on file, future orders take a single phone call or WhatsApp message, and we can courier the finished shirts directly to your office or home.
A Sensible Investment
Our shirts run from $195 for our entry-level cottons to $350 for the rarest Italian and Swiss weaves. That includes consultation, fabric, hand-cut construction, fittings, and pattern storage. Volume discounts apply once you commission three or more in a single visit, which is how most of our PJ clients build their first wardrobe. Read our guide to Thomas Mason and Albini fabrics for a deeper look at what you are buying.
When you compare the cost of a properly cut shirt that lasts five years to a parade of off-the-rack shirts that fade and warp after eighteen months, the maths usually settles the question.
Reorders Made Easy
Once we know your pattern, the rest of your wardrobe is simple. Many clients build up a steady rotation of six to ten shirts, ordering two or three new ones each year as the older shirts retire. We track every pattern, every fabric you have used, and every detail you preferred, so you never have to repeat the conversation.
